Health Means Wealth was created by JayDee Vykoukal after realizing how broken our health care system really is in the U.S. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, she got frustrated with seeing patients that have bought into the propaganda that only a health care professional can “make them better.”  While guidance from a trusted professional can be paramount in staying healthy and optimizing, the only true healer can be yourself.  This requires the right awareness of the body, mind and soul and how they are all very intricately connected.

Why our healthcare system doesn’t work:

  • We have gotten so specialized in medicine that we tend to focus on one body part or ailment at a time. As a society, we have forgotten to look at ourselves as complex beings with a unique mix of emotions, experiences, beliefs, genetics, work ethic, body composition, etc.
  • We place too much emphasis on genetics. Gene expression can be well regulated in your favor by making the right healthy choices. It’s been proven by science!
  • We wait to seek help or give treatment as professionals only when there is a problem. We tend to focus on treating illness rather than promoting optimal health.
  • There is a stigma between mental and physical wellness.  Just because a mental issue has caused a physical manifestation does not mean “it’s all in your head.”  We tend to blow off people with deep mental issues that need the most help and could benefit most form the right attention to what’s truly causing their symptoms.
  • Medical professionals are meant to be guides.  People should be curious and question what’s being done to them rather than assuming that every doctor has their best interest in mind (in an ideal world yes, but unfortunately it’s not true).

How you can start taking control of your own life today:

  • Stop making poor health choices (eating processed food, not exercising, little sleep, etc.) all day long and then wonder why you’re body isn’t able to stay healthy!
  • Be genuinely curious and open-minded about your health options.  There is no one magical cure for any ailment, but rather an accumulation of healthy habits and decisions that you can make based on your personal beliefs and unique body.
  • Don’t take lightly the power of your decisions.  We all tend to put our fears, pain and poor health off for another day.  You have to take ownership for how you feel and start making changes NOW, not tomorrow.
  • Learn the basics of your body function to be able to appreciate and visualize how you can start healing any bodily pain (or even illness now).
