12 Remedies for Even the Nastiest of Hangovers

The morning-after hangover often blankets a gloomy atmosphere, particularly following a night of exuberant celebration and overindulgence. Now, envision an alternative scenario: waking up after festivities feeling rejuvenated and brimming with energy, devoid of the typical headaches or nausea. It almost sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Yet, on an online forum, an inquisitive user once posed the question, “What’s your go-to hangover remedy?” The responses revealed a diverse array of effective methods that hold the potential to transform this wishful scenario into a tangible reality.

1. Maintain Hydration

While the best way to avoid a hangover is to drink responsibly or abstain from alcohol altogether, staying hydrated is the number one remedy to get rid of hangover blues. It helps dilute the alcohol in your system, minimize the effects of dehydration, and reduce the intensity of a hangover. Water is a go-to choice for many. However, consider having sports drinks or coconut water to enhance recovery.

2. Cheeseburger and Fries

A user mentioned that Mythbusters, a popular television show, found that a cheeseburger and fries provided the most effective hangover relief. It is because of the high potassium content in the cheeseburger, which helped replenish electrolytes and subsides hangover symptoms.

3. Hit The Swimming Pool

Water is miraculous. Many users believe submerging in cold water can instantly make you feel better. Someone writes, “Late teens and early 20s, I would beg my friends to hit the swimming pool or jump in the river on hangover days. Feels incredible.”

“The colder the better. I’ve successfully fought off the dirtiest hangovers of my life by immersing myself in cold water for 20 minutes.” Another added.

4. Vietnamese Pho

For a good reason, many have recommended Vietnamese Pho as a hangover cure. This slow-cooked broth satisfies the taste buds and has the power to get us on our feet after a night of indulgence. A user shared, “I discovered this life-saving soup a few years back. Since then, I have shown the way of Pho to my friends, and every time we go out for some drinks, we meet the next day to worship the bowl of liquid life.”

5. Nap Method

Someone said, “When you get up the next day, have breakfast, plenty of fluids, and then go back to sleep, even if it’s just for another hour or so. Waking up the second time, you feel so much better. Never failed.”

6. Have a Hearty Breakfast

When recovering from a hangover, a lavish breakfast can be a game-changer. A user had to say this, “A good breakfast works. Like, those colored fruity breakfasts you see on Instagram-type stuff. By afternoon hits, I’m as normal as it gets.”

7. Miso Soup

That’s another soup to make hangover blues go away. Someone said, “Fermented foods containing acetaldehyde dehydrogenases, water, and salt. Miso soup contains all three key components to help break down alcohol, rehydrate the body, and restore electrolytes to normal levels. Kombucha with very low amounts of alcohol would be another great choice.”

8. Scouse

Scouse is slow-cooked meat (beef or lamb) with root vegetables, onions, and flavorful seasonings. It’s a hearty meal that works wonders in curing a hangover. A user wrote, “I was working in a bar and went out with colleagues after the Saturday shift, got extremely drunk, and conveniently forgot my shift at 2 pm the next day. I spent the morning feeling miserable, my mother-in-law had made Scouse, and I had two massive bowls and was cured!”

9. Activated Charcoal Supplements

Someone said, “ This is my go-to hangover cure, and it always works no matter how hard I go. If you can find Activated Charcoal supplements, take 2 before drinking, 2-4 during, and 2 before bed, and guess what?! No hangover! Its primary use is for bad gastrointestinal problems or food poisoning. Seriously, try it!” (Always consult your doctor before taking supplements.)

10. Soylent

Soylent is a meal replacement product that provides balanced nutrition in a convenient form. However, some users claim it works well for hangovers. A person said, “Soylent contains all the nutrients a human body needs. I’ve used the Liquid 2.0 kind after hearing someone recommend this after drinking, and I have to say it works well for hangovers. Before sleeping, I had a bottle of Soylent and some water. On the occasion that it was an extremely rough night, I’d also have some of a bottle in the morning, but usually, the one at night worked.”

11. Munchi Box

Someone said, “In Scotland, we eat a ‘munchi box’ before bed. It’s essentially a morning-after pill for drinking. Works every time, and we drink a lot.”

12. Guronsan

A user said, “In Europe, we have this thing called “Guronsan.” At least where I am from, everyone takes it as a hangover cure. It’s some caffeine, some sodium, some vitamin C, and this “toxin clearing compound. Regardless of the sketchy compound, all the other components help you become alert and hydrated when paired with lots of water. It works, and when I go to the US, people ask me to bring it.”
